Hey Toyzz, can you give us a brief introduction of yourself?
Sure! I’m Toyzz, 27 years old and I live in Spain. I’m the second of 5 brothers. I consider my self as a crazy creative, music producer and Dj. I play the guitar and I bang the piano.
How did you get into music production? And who inspired you?
My relationship with electronic music started 10 years ago when I first discovered EDM and Techno in Ibiza. Then I studied a certificate in music production and advanced music theory and I got in love with this way of communicating with people.
I had a lot of artist references, but definitely Skrillex and Gesaffelstein influenced me in a way that I still use sound resources like them.
Your new track "Muevelo" has just been released, how did it come about?
The music session was pretty fun. Last year I was using complex sound design in my production and I didn’t feel it worked well. So I wanted to create something more simple, with organic instruments and not too many harsh electronic sounds so I decided to sample, and chop a lot of different stuff. I remember being in the studio playing with the launchpad, and the main sound you listen it’s me slicing a lot of trumpets of a same recording.
What advice would you give to upcoming producers who are just starting out?
Don’t listen to anyone, if you love music, go for it. But listen, when I tell you, “don't listen to anyone” believe me. People don't really know what you feel inside, and they gonna guide you in the way they see things happen, not in your way. So you should focus on yourself. It’s so hard the first years, you’ll see everyone questioning every step you make but the conviction inside you should be more powerful than any ignorant opinion about yourself. Be your real version of yourself, not the version of the teachers, parents or friends want you to be
Can you walk us through your workflow in the studio? How do you start a new song and how long does it take to finish it?
I usually separate the technical and creative process, and I set up the sessions depending on the work I must do. Normally, I do sound design, sample searching, organizing library one day, then producing the track, and finally mixing and mastering. It should take 2-3 days of work, but I like to give me 1 week to rethink ideas, and exporting the final product.
What is your favorite music production gear (vst or analog)?
It really depends on the style. For recordings such as vocals and guitar I want to have the best analog preamp as possible, however for just mixing I think in the box you have all you need in terms of sound quality and timing.
Who are your dream collabs now?
As a musician, I love to listen to all genres and I feel like I could work with a lot of different artists. There are a lot of big new artist in Puerto Rico doing crazy stuff and experimenting with electronic music such as Mora and Bad Bunny. So I would love to work with them. And more closely to my sound, working with Diplo would also be a dream coming true.
How is next year looking for you, upcoming shows and new releases?
We are currently planning a lot of new music and shows. So I'm looking to the next year with hope and confidence I never had in my life. I recently signed with Forever Talent Management and Cumac bookings, and I feel so lucky to have a crew of people supporting me, believing in my product and carrying every single detail about my music career. This is priceless.
